Description
Heritage Skies
Malcolm Lilliehöök was a Swedish pilot and an aviation pioneer — one of those who flew before flying was ordinary.
Pioneering flight asked for a particular kind of person. The aircraft were light, loud and unforgiving, the cockpits open to the weather, the instruments few and mostly optimistic. There was no settled practice to fall back on and very little margin when something went wrong. Every flight added something to a body of knowledge that did not yet exist, and the pilots who made them were not following aviation’s history so much as writing it.
That is what this figure is for. Not the machine, but the person who climbed into it.
